Aghia Markella: was born in Volissos. The church dedicated to Aghia
Markella is located 7km to the north of Volissos on a sandy beach. The saint
died on a beach about 20 minutes away from the church where the holy water spurts out of the rocks.

Moundon: It is located in Dievcha village, north of Chios, before Volissos. It was considered as the most important monastery on the island, after Nea Moni.

Pera: It was founded by Pan Antonopoulos in 1920 close to Kardamylla village.

Nea Moni: It means the New Monastery. It is located in the central Chios.
The architecture of this important Byzantine monument is the octagonal type, which is a great example of architectural style in Chios and Cyprus. The monastery was built in the 11th century to honour the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This monastery was founded with a donation by the emperor Constantine IX Monomachos and his wife Zoe who were told by the three Chian monks that his banishment to Lesvos was temporary and he would return to the throne. The original church of the monastery was built on an area where the three monks found the icon of the Virgin Mary hanging on a branch of a myrtle.
